Typography

The requirements for this project limited the number of colors to two plus black white and the letters to one word. After that, they were free to create their typography art anyway they chose.

The original Carrie Underwood portrait met the two color requirement but then Kate started playing with different gradients for the background. I posted just three of the many she completed to show how each gradient gave the portrait such a difference appearance.

  1. These are great! I've been working on program ideas for the next NC Artist gallery at NCMA called WORD UP! And, as always, Apex is one step ahead. @Ian, the exhibition will be there this summer during your Street Art 101 workshop. Perhaps it could inspire a crazy text based project...

  2. AND.. In case these students are interested in 'Teens Inspired,' there's tons of text based artists in the permanent collection: Check out Lalla Essaydi, Ruscha, and Plensa for some interesting connections! http://teens-inspired.org/

  3. Do you use Photo shop elements for this? Do you recommend any tutorials? Thanks.
