 This week has been perspective week here at Apex with many of the classes participating in some form of art with a focus on this principle.

This class was challenged with creating a wall mural that incorporated perspective in some way..

Perspective Pride

Our idea was to spell the word pride out but it's only legible if you look at it from a certain angle. At another angle it just looks like random scribbles. My group members are Michelle, Madyson, Ryn, Marissa, and Brittany. Michelle cut out the letter on cardboard and we use that to mark on the wall. It's a little bit complicated but over time we have gotten the hang of it.

Perspective : Photography

I hated perspective drawing in high school. Hated. I remember being so bored sitting in the hallway, drawing for days. The worst part about it was that one little mistake would ruin the illusion that I had been working so hard to create.

My art one students learned about perspective in mini lessons over a week. They learned about one, two and three point, then tried each one out in short drawings. The week ended with students applying what they learned in a two day assignment. The task was to capture perspective observable around our school campus.

Students could pick one, two or three point perspective and draw in any media or use photography. While some students did decided to draw and produced some beautiful work,  photography was the most popular choice.

The photo kids scampered around campus, enjoying the lovely spring weather and investigating their environment through new eyes. Students who chose to draw found a spot and settled in. They found perspective everywhere. Best part - no one was bored. :)

Wall Murals : Perspective in Progress

This week has been perspective week here at Apex with many of the classes participating in some form of art with a focus on this principle.

This class was challenged with creating a wall mural that incorporated perspective in some way.. The group above is creating a tunnel effect to mimic the NC State Free Expression Tunnel.

This group is working with their take on looking in the Wardrobe.

This group decided to incorporate the concept of localized perspective by writing a word on the wall that can only be viewed from one direction.

This team is giving us a view through the bricks and a path that travels across several different landscapes.

Perspective: Final

The only theme given was Perspective... what that meant and how it would be interpreted was up to the students. The range of both solutions and materials varied greatly.  Here are some of the final solutions..

Anamorphosis drawing of a ballet shoes.. This was drawn while looking through her camera phone in order to create the right perspective. All the images above are of the same drawing. The only difference was the angle that the photograph was taken from.

Lou Reed in and out of perspective. This image uses the technique of localized perspective.. the image can only be viewed from one particular angle to be correct.

This student decided to create an acrylic painting of a beach house using 1 point linear perspective.

Life Is Now Here.. Life Is Nowhere .. it all depends upon your perspective. Acrylic paint on wood. Sandpaper was latter used on the background to add texture.

Another example of localized perspective.. when viewed from any other angle this work appears to be nothing more than random shapes and colors.

The I is made from pages taken from the Ayn Rand's book Anthem. The pieces had a whole cut out of the bottom which allowed the work to be illuminated. The I and the lightbulbs are all symbolism easily recognizable by anyone who has read the book.
