The new Art One class spent the day creating masking tape murals around the school. Take a look at the process we went through to get to this point.
First, we talked about hatching and cross hatching. We tried out some hatching techniques in out sketchbooks.
Next we talked and made a list of different topics that were important to us.
We formed teams based on topics we selected and talked about symbols and words that would relate to our topic.. Each team created sketches based on those ideas.
We even practiced with the tape on the table to get used to working with this medium. Then we went to work... Here are the results.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite part of this is that you KNOW the kids LOVED doing this... like doing graffiti that is allowed. I know I would have loved this when I was in high school.

DeleteI want to try this with elementary students? What's the best way to approach "enlarging" their sketches? A grid? Thank you for these awesome ideas. What a cool project!!!

DeleteWe did use anything to enlarge the sketches like grids or projectors, though I'm sure those would work. The just used the sketches as references and did the murals freehand. The work on the wall tends to be better than the sketches because they care more about the wall ;)
