ANOTHER 12 Days of Photoshop!!

Last season, we released an exciting way for your students to review many of the Photoshop tips and tricks they learned in Computer Art class. We called it the 12 Days of Photoshop! Each day for the 12 days leading up to winter break, students were asked to complete a task. They only had one day to think of an idea and create it in Photoshop.

The response to the 12 Days of Photoshop was so overwhelmingly positive that we decided to introduce another 12 assignments! And guess what? The Art of Education Online Magazine posted the entire 12! Click here to read the article and see Another 12 Days of Photoshop!

Here are a few examples from the new set...

Day 1: True Identity:Be it a reflection in a puddle or a shadow on the wall, the objective is to use Photoshop to show an image’s true identity in its reflection. Perhaps you’ll show a wolf in sheep’s clothing or a kitten dreaming of being a lion. Be clever because the true self can only be seen in the shadows!

Day 8: Edible Architecture:
From Ms Sudkamp's class... Have you ever been so hungry that you could’ve eaten a house? Well, with this assignment, you might just be able to! Design a house made out of food. Consider who might live in this house, where they are from, and what type of architecture would be involved.

Day 9: Virtual Graffiti:Using spray paint to graffiti a wall is totally illegal. Using Photoshop to make it look like you graffitied a wall? Totally legal! In this assignment, the students will try to create, as convincingly as possible, a tagged wall or photo of a train.

So click here to see all 12 projects on Another 12 Days of Photoshop. We hope you enjoy and that you have a very Merry Photoshop!

The Wolf Sings

Singing Animation
by Kimberly

For the past two weeks, we have been working on our second animation project. We had to choose a song, recommended 30 sec, and animate the mouth of a picture or drawing to make it sing along to the song. I drew a basic wolf head to act as a base for the different mouth movements, and drew the mouths and eyes separate so I could add them on later.

After I had all the basic mouth positions, I imported all the images into flash, and set the frames up to match the words in the song. The result was a pretty believable animation. However, some of the images in the frames were off center, so the picture shudders, and I'm not sure how to fix it.

Computer Art Walk Cycle

This is the Computer Art class' first animation and the students returned with some very impressive results. The project was about gaining an understanding of the eight stages of the walk cycle for a bipedal creature. like the bear below which is really well done.

Some students went even further.. like the six legged creature above. Even the two legged drawings have little extra. Look how the hair flows from front to back on the walk cycle at the bottom of the page. Excellent work!

April SchoolArts Magazine & Apex Computer Art

The April issue of SchoolArts is out and it contains an article about Apex Art's Computer art class!

Last year, the Computer art students collaborated with Ms Lane's kindergarten class from Douglas Elementary Arts and Science Magnet in Raleigh. Her artists drew the tigers and our computer artists brought them to life.

Cartoons and Me

For our first Computer Art project the students had to combine a Portrait with a Cartoon. The objective was to create a new image using a cartoon and a photograph of themselves or a friend so that the two of images interacted in some way.

They had to use a separate photo, cartoon and background. Also they wanted to demonstrate overlapping body parts when taking the photograph. Here are some of the results...
