Seven Talking Tigers Singing!

Seven Talking Tigers Singing from iansands on Vimeo.
I received an email from Jordan Lane, a kindergarten teacher at Douglas Elementary Arts and Science Magnet in Raleigh. She asked if our class wanted to collaborate with her class. She had some tigers that needed animating. We pounced on the opportunity.

Soon we were dropboxed a folder full of tiger paintings. Our animators went to work, learning about dialog, selecting songs and setting the tigers to music.

Here are Seven of the Talking Tigers Singing!

Talking Tigers

Today, the Computer Art class kicked off a lesson about animating dialog. What makes this project interesting is the email I received from Jordan Lane, a kindergarten teacher at Douglas Elementary Arts and Science Magnet in Raleigh. She asked if our class wanted to collaborate with her class. She had some tigers that needed animating.

Check back in about two weeks to see what these tigers will be talking about!

PLN Animation Collaboration

A week or so ago, we kicked off a new unit in animation using artwork created by students at other schools. I tweeted my PLN asking for volunteers. The three participating schools included -->

by Second graders at Dryden Elementary Arlington Heights, Illinois.

Visual Pun
By middle school students at Space Center Intermediate School Houston, Texas

Exquisite Corpse
By students at Byron Center Middle School Byron Center, Michigan

You can check out the first round of animations here . Our Apex Computer Art students selected an image and used Photoshop to create these animated gif's. Here are a few more of the animations...

Cartoon Animations: the First

To kick off a new unit in animation, I thought it would be fun to have have the Computer Art class try animating other artist's work. I sent out a request for artwork to my PLN via Twitter (you can follow me @iansands) and received these responses.

The Creature that Came with the Chair:
by Second graders at Dryden Elementary Arlington Heights, Illinois.

Visual Pun
By middle school students at Space Center Intermediate School Houston, Texas

Exquisite Corpse

Our Apex Computer Art students selected an image and used Photoshop to create these animated gif's. Here are only a few, more animations coming soon!

On the Ninth Day of Photoshop...

On the Ninth Day of Photoshop my Students made for me...

OK, here’s the things. So our blog, the Art of Apex High School was nominated and is currently in the Top Twenty 2012 Art Ed Blog of the Year! How exciting, yes I know. Since the stakes are high, I decided to  check out the competition and I ran across the blog titled, My Adventures in Positive Space. Its the art work by students of Renee Collins.

Renee recently did a project with her 1st graders about the book 'I'm the Best Artist in the Ocean!' by Kevin Sherry. Now, why she didn’t chose How to Milk A Dinocow is beyond me but i digress. Anyhow, when I saw the crazy cool squids that her students painted I knew right away that they would be super fun to animate.

I decided to email Renee and ask permission (I know, me asking permission for something is shocking but I did). Renee agreed and so for today’s 9th Day of  Photoshop the student’s had to animate a squid.

Like all the Day’s of Photoshop, the students only have one day to complete and post their work. This is an exceptionally challenging time frame when creating animations. Here they are...

Final Monsters

A few monsters from beginning to end. Three classes from two different schools all working together to complete a joint project.. Monsters in a Box.

The monster were drawn by Theresa Gillespie's kindergartener class in Illinois. The pictures went to the Art One class at Apex High School where they were transformed into 3D. Afterwards, the Computer Art class at Apex designed these monster packages.

Monster Round 2 : Building the Packages

Apex HS Art continues our attempted at collaborating with the kindergarten class at the Moline School District in Illinois. They drew monsters. Now, our Art One class at Apex has recreated them in 3D. Meanwhile, the Computer Art class is creating package designs.

Today, we started packaging the monsters. Though we still have a few more, most monsters are completed and most package designs printed. We started putting the monsters in their packages today to get them ready for shipping. Here's a look at what we have so far...
