More Newimals

Art History Game Day

Today was Art History Game Day... A chance for each team of art history game designers to both present their games and play other team's games.

Each game had to fulfill four objectives: Craftsmanship, Creativity, Informative and Fun. Score cards were kept as we played each game.

Art Of The Sandwich: This was a fun game and has some potential marketability. Objective, collect sandwich pieces as you move around the board.

Artist to Artist: The art lovers version of Apples to Apples. I would like then to continue to make game cards so this can be played by large groups in future classes.

All Your Favorite Artists Are Dead: Van Gogh with a gun in the corn field?

Shoot the Artwork: I'm probably not standing in the best spot.

Pin the Eye on the Nefertiti: Kind of gross but fun to play cause your got dizzy and a candy prize ;)

Andy Warball: Objective, knock out the can you select based on a trivia question. She actually knocked out Andy without knocking over the other cans! Winner!!

I was going to play this game..Where did the Nefertiti eyes go?

Masking Tape Murals

The new Art One class spent the day creating masking tape murals around the school. Take a look at the process we went through to get to this point.

First, we talked about hatching and cross hatching. We tried out some hatching techniques in out sketchbooks.

Next we talked and made a list of different topics that were important to us.

We formed teams based on topics we selected and talked about symbols and words that would relate to our topic.. Each team created sketches based on those ideas.

We even practiced with the tape on the table to get used to working with this medium. Then we went to work... Here are the results.

Drawing Chick

Chick is the name of the skeleton in my art room. On Monday, the first day of the new semester, I had my Art One students take 20 minutes to draw chick. I told them at the end of the week, Friday, they would draw her again and I promised them their drawing skills would improve.

During the week we tried out a series of "learning to see" techniques. As a homework assignment, they had to draw the bones of a cartoon character of their choosing. Here are a few of the cartoon bones..

below that are a few examples of Monday next to Friday Chick drawings...

Chick drawings.. Monday on the left, Friday on the right...

Students sat in the same seat for both drawings and had the same amount of time (20 minutes)

The two major improvements here, and in the images below...

1. On Monday, the student drew what she thought she saw, a head on view. On Friday, she drew what she actually saw, 3/4 view.

2. Taking time to draw each bone individually. Notice the difference in the rib cage. On Monday the student drew the ribs as one piece. On Friday, she drew each rib separately.
