Light Painting Part 1

Today we are attempting something new with light painting. We are not only creating light paintings but we are going to attempt to create short, stop motion light painting animations.

I.e. the following three light paintings are for an animation of a rocket launching into space...

Today, we took the photos. Check back next week to see how the animations come along.

  1. What do you use for "lights?" Glow sticks? I found they weren't bright enough for my camera. Or maybe my room shouldn't be pitch black?

Where would you buy glow sticks when it's not Halloween anyway?

I'd love to try this with my middle school students...

  2. We used the thick glow sticks. They have them around here in most dollar stores. We also set the shutter speed for around 10-15 seconds..

    Good luck!
