Post It Notes Kaleidoscope 2015

Withe the Kaleidoscope Exhibit at the Cary Town Center coming up, I wanted to display something different than the usual individual matted art work. Since the AOIT Art class was becoming increasingly proficient using Photoshop, I though it might not be a bad idea to have them create a Post-It Note mural.

We took a look at how to create a gradient map and also how to apply the mosaic filter. From that point on I turned them loose. Here are the two designs they decided upon. Above is the final mural as part of Kaleidoscope. The second mural is being displayed at school between the B and C buildings.

Hot Off The Presses

This weekend I, along with more than 2,000 other art teachers, visited Seattle for the 2011 National Arts Educator Conference.

At the entrance to the exhibition hall was the SchoolArts booth. They were giving away copies of the April edition which just so happens to have Apex HS Art on the cover.

The booth looked fantastic with your art spread across the tables.

Post It Note Project Explained

The one project by far that I receive the most requests asking, "How'd you do that?" is the Post It Note Mural.

In this lesson you will find images and a description of the process we used to complete these projects. There is also a link to a video that demonstrates the process.

The entire process is available for free!

Later you can use the same lesson to create a mosaic out of any material including Skittles, Jelly Beans,or color swatches. We even used it to create a mosaic of the Mona Lisa using over 2,000 balloons!

No matter what the media, the basic concept is the same. Start by creating an image map that uses the same colors as the object (Post-it Notes, balloons, Skittles, etc) that you will use to complete your mural.

This step by step instruction will walk you through the entire process.

Download the entire process for FREE in PDF format!

Post-it Murals

The most advanced post it note project yet here at Apex HS. All five groups are attempting to complete a portrait for this year’s post it note mural project. The portraits are as follows: Bob Marley, Captain Jack Sparrow, Elvis, Spiderman and Ms. Ginsburg’s dog.
